The Tube
The Tube (London Underground) is just a five-minute walk from our college. You are able to use the District, Piccadilly, and Central lines, which give you quick access to all of London and train connections to the rest of the United Kingdom.Oyster Cards
You can use debit cards or purchase a prepaid Oyster Card and top it up as needed to travel on London's public transportation. Compared to purchasing tickets, these are much more affordable ways to travel.
Sterling College London's students, enrolled on a full-time study (15 hours per week or more) for 14 weeks or more and are at least 18yrs old are eligible for an 18+ Student Oyster Card. If you're 18 or over, a student and living in a London borough, you can get discounted travel with an Oyster photocard.
Cycling
London can be fun to explore on bicycles. You can cycle from near our apartments through Hyde Park, into St. James Park, and past Buckingham Palace without having to travel on a road on the weekends because the Mall is closed on Sunday. As a result of the Mayor's efforts to make the Capital more eco-friendly, there are more bike lanes for your safety. You can use Boris bikes to explore, stop for a while, and then rent another in numerous locations. You might want to buy your own if you intend to spend more time in London. The customer service at Evans Cycles' numerous locations throughout London is generally excellent.
Driving
Cars In London, you really don't need a car. However, if you really need a car fix, ZipCar offers a simple solution for short-term rentals, while the usual suspects are more effective for longer-term rentals. London streets were intended for ponies and carriages so can get very limited on occasion so watch those wing mirrors! Or, travel outside of London to typical English villages, take a stroll through picturesque countryside, and eat lunch at a pub. A great example is Turville in Berkshire, which was featured in the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and has a great pub!
Airports
The Heathrow Express takes passengers into London in 15 minutes, and from there, they can take a short taxi or tube ride to our apartments. In just 25 minutes, you can catch the Gatwick Express train to Victoria, where you can take a 15-minute tube ride to Notting Hill Gate tube station, 5 minute walk from our apartments.
