About Course
The ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care is a 60-credit qualification and is the equivalent level to an A Level or Access to HE qualification. It has been designed for learners who wish to progress to a health and social care degree but may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required. The qualification aims to provide learners with the underpinning knowledge and understanding of a range of topics within the Health and Social Care environment. These topics will allow learners to develop practical and theoretical approaches to solving problems and finding solutions using Information and Health and Social Care.
This qualification sits within a suite of ATHE L3 qualifications, which is called the International Access Programme (IAP). Each qualification has a credit value of 60. Learners may choose to study one or more of the qualifications in this suite.
Who the Diploma in Health and Social Care - Level 3 qualification is for?
This qualification is suitable for you if you intend to take a health and social care degree but do not yet have sufficient, relevant attainment at Level 3 to meet the entry requirements for a higher education course or if you wish to progress your career in a health and social care management role at entry level.
Progression
On successful completion of the Diploma in Health and Social Care - Level 3 qualification, there are a number of progression opportunities.
Students can progress to:
- A level 4 ATHE qualification such as the ATHE Level 4 Diploma in Health and Social Care
- A degree programme
- Students can go directly into employment in areas of growth in health and social care and management

Assessment
There is no external assessment (i.e. exams) attached to any unit. You will be required to submit a final written assignment for each module.

Units:
You must complete 6 mandatory units worth 60 credits to achieve the ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.
- Structure and Overview of the Health and Social Care Sector This unit aims to develop an understanding of the health and social care sector, its aims and purpose, and the organisations that provide health and social care along with an awareness of current issues impacting the sector in a chosen country.
- Principles, Values and Regulation in the Health and Social Care Sector This unit aims to develop knowledge of the principles and values and the legislation, regulations, and guidance that underpin work in the health and social care sector in a chosen country.
- Human Growth and Development This unit aims to develop an understanding of different areas of growth and development, and how each development area has an impact on the other.
- Working in Health and Social Care This unit aims to develop an understanding of the key features involved in delivering safe and consistent services in health and social care.
- Research in Health and Social Care This unit aims to develop essential academic and research skills required for working in the health and social care sector and to be able to formally present academic research findings, written and oral.
- Personal and Professional Development in the Health and Social Care Sector This unit aims to develop the skills and knowledge required to plan and implement own personal and professional development for further study or work in the health and social care sector and for future reflective practice.

Admission Requirements
This qualification is designed for students aged 16 and above.
For students who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:
- Age: 16 +
- 5 or more GCSEs at grades C and above
- other related level 2 subjects
- other equivalent international qualifications
- Applicants must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments
- Applicants may also have relevant work experience
Mature students' route:
Mature students are encouraged to apply and will be considered after the interview. You may be required to present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include relevant work experience (paid and/or unpaid), participation and/or achievement of relevant qualifications.
You do not need to have studied Health and Social Care before but an interest in the subject is important
