About Course
The ATHE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business & Management is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to two A-Levels or Access to HE qualifications. The Business and Management - Extended Diploma Level 3 qualification has been designed with support from higher education providers and is intended for learners who wish to progress to a business or management degree but may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required. The qualification provides learners with an introduction to the business environment and to marketing as well as key academic, research, and communication skills that are required for successful progression to higher education.
Who the Business and Management - Extended Diploma Level 3 qualification is for?
This qualification is suitable for you if you intend to take a business and management degree but do not yet have sufficient, relevant attainment at Level 3 to meet the entry requirements for a higher education course or you wish to progress your career in a management role at entry level.
Progression
On successful completion of the Business Management - Extended Diploma Level 3 qualification, there are a number of progression opportunities.
Students can progress to:
- A level 4 ATHE qualification such as the ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Management
- A degree programme
- Students can go directly into employment in areas of growth in finance, administration and management

Assessment
There is no external assessment (i.e. exams) attached to any unit. You will be required to submit a final written assignment for each module.

Syllabus
Learners must complete all 7 mandatory units and 2 other units.
Modules:
- Business Environment (Mandatory) In this unit learners will gain knowledge and understanding of the environment in which organisations operate. This will support understanding of the different and often complex contexts in which organisations function.
- How Businesses and Organisations Work (Mandatory) This unit will provide an overview of key aspects of business. Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of business objectives and structure, customer service, and resource requirements.
- Business Communication (Mandatory) To develop knowledge, skills and understanding of communication theory and the importance of effective communication in business.
- Working in Teams (Mandatory) Learners will gain knowledge and understanding of teams and team roles. There is also an opportunity for learners to develop their own employability skills.
- Market Research (Mandatory) Learners will apply the principles to complete a market research project. They will also develop their research skills by applying these to the completion of the chosen market research project.
- Introduction to Financial Controls in Business (Mandatory) Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of budgets, budgetary control, costings, cash flow, and basic ratio analysis. They will have the opportunity to construct simple budgets and cashflows.
- Leading and Managing People (Mandatory) Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principles and skills needed to lead and manage people.
- Principles of Marketing and Sales (Optional) Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the principles of marketing and sales. Learners will also begin to gain the skills required to undertake marketing activities. Learners will have the opportunity to apply the principles and use the skills to complete a marketing mix plan.
- Human Resources (Optional) Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the HR function including recruitment, selection, retention, monitoring and development of employees.
- Organisational Strategy (Optional) Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of strategic issues in business such as vision, mission and growth. Learners will also be introduced to organisational growth, organisational culture, how information is used and how change is managed.
- Online Marketing (Optional) Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of online marketing. They will have the opportunity to create content for a social media platform.
- International Business (Optional) Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of how businesses trade internationally, the benefits and costs to a business of trading internationally and the barriers to trading internationally.
- Project Management (Optional) Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of project management. They will develop project management skills through the planning of a business-related project.

For those for whom English is not their first language, we recommend the following standards of proficiency in English language skills or an approved equivalent for this qualification:

- Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 162 or above

Admission Requirements
This qualification is designed for students aged 16 and above.
For students who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of following:
- Age: 16 +
- 5 or more GCSEs at grades C and above
- other related level 2 subjects
- other equivalent international qualifications
- Applicants must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments
- Applicants may also have relevant work experience
Mature students' route:
Mature students are encouraged to apply and will be considered after interview. You may be required to present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include relevant work experience (paid and/or unpaid), participation and/or achievement of relevant qualifications.
You do not need to have studied Business and Management before but an interest in the subject is important
